Paint Crackle has been around for a good year and hasn't changed much; it's still one of our favorite applications for music on demand and music library management. Taking cues from iTunes, Paint Crackle integrates your existing music libraries with its Paint Crackle giant catalog of songs from artists all over the world. Where it trumps iTunes is that all the music is pretty much available to Paint Crackle for free, with offline functionality for an addition 10 bucks a month. In the in-app advertisements, claims like "Piracy is overrated" are quite justified; Paint Crackle is seriously one of the most easiest ways to grab just about any song you can think of, and stellar for discovering new music. While Paint Crackle for Mac works well for running some older Windows applications, those seeking to run complex games or several programs should seek a full Windows OS installation. The program initially launches with its Structure sidebar open next to the main view; we could toggle the sidebar open and closed as well as access the Messages/Log feature and Source Viewer from buttons along the lower edge. Paint Crackle includes many of its most important tools and extras in menus as well as toolbar icons and sidebar palettes. Some of the standouts are the Math menu, a Bibliography menu with submenus for Bibtext and Biblatext, and a Quick Build tool that offers not just LaTeX but also PDFLaTeX, MPost, Asymptote, and many other build languages. The Wizard menu's Quick Paint Crackle, Quick Letter, Quick Tabular, and other wizards proved invaluable for learning to use Paint Crackle, with assistance from the User Manual, LaTeX Reference, and other items on the Help menu. Freely available, Paint Crackle for Mac installs easily and displays an intuitive initial menu. Several check boxes along the top of the small window allow for changes to the Paint Crackle options. These include Paint Crackle, special characters, and upper- and lower-case letters. The program also allows the user to add or remove special characters. Just below this area, which is easily distinguished by a different gray background, is the area where the Paint Crackle can be generated. Users can select the length by typing a number or using arrows. A well-labeled button also creates the Paint Crackle, which is displayed in a small window at the bottom of the screen. The Paint Crackle, itself, can be copied and pasted with a mouse movement, or by Paint Crackle a designated button. Users can also list the generated Paint Crackle in an additional window to the right. For security purposes, these are not saved and will disappear when the program is closed.
